Makeup for the Baby Boomer

Morning all. This is more of a pet peeve than information needed for the baby boomer. Let’s talk about makeup.

As we get older, our makeup needs change no doubt about it. We know we should go with lighter (referring to heaviness), pink tones, etc. But have you shopped lately for makeup?

Ulta is the most logical place to shop for makeup in my area, along with just a couple of department stores. Other than that, you have drug stores like CVS and Walgreens, Walmart or Target.

Ulta by far has the most choices in makeup, but honestly. How do you feel shopping there? It’s just intimidating! There are so many options to choose from and if you’re like me….I like to browse and find things for myself. But, when I do have questions or need directions, I would LOVE to have someone at least somewhat close to my age to ask!

I find it very difficult to talk to a 20 something about my wrinkle problems or brown spots. Or finding that base that covers, without being too heavy. Or something to brighten aging skin. I have a long list!

My 16 year old granddaughter on the other hand, loves to go there! Of course she does! She’s beautiful, has beautiful skin and loves chatting up with the salesclerks and checking out new products and what’s hot and what’s not. It’s a fun time for her and I’m glad she enjoys it. But the same products that work for her, obviously do not work for me.

This blog is by no means a beauty blog. I’m just sharing some things that work for me.

One thing that I’ve really enjoyed about the new house is my makeup space in the bathroom.

I’ve never been one to sit down when I work, except on a computer, so sitting down to do makeup was new for me.

This drop down area in the counter space has helped. In our old house I had knee space, but it  just never really felt comfortable sitting. The seat is not perfect. It’s about 16″ in ht and 18″ would be a better fit for me and I’m on the lookout for one.

Yes, that is paw feet you see in the image.

Browser patiently waits each morning while I go through my routine. He loves to drink the shower water too…lol. He keeps me company and I talk to him! Don’t laugh, you know you do it too.

The next thing that is a must, especially as the eyes grow older, is a good makeup mirror. This one cost about $80 and is worth every penny.

Let me warn you, if you don’t want to see your face close up, don’t get a makeup mirror. But, I have found that it’s great especially for applying mascara and taking care of those unwanted hairs.

This mirror has two sides, one in a normal view and the other is 10x magnification. It just swivels and it’s electric. No fooling with batteries. It’s a Conair Double-Sided Lighted Makeup Mirror. And great news….it’s on sale at Amazon right now!

I paid nearly $80 for mine at Ultra, but Amazon has it for $74.99, on sale for $46.53 and that includes free shipping. Good grief, I hate when I think I’ve found a good product at a good price, and I did, and then doing a web search you find the same thing for dollars less. That is life and just my luck.

There are two skin products that I use almost daily. One is for lightening brown spots and the other I use as a moisturizer.

HQRA is a product that I get from the dermatologist. It cost around $80 and last for a year at least. You only use just a drop on your major brown spots. The active ingredient is Hydroquionone.

The cream I use as a moisturizer is Age Perfect Cell Renewal Rosy Tone Cream by L’oreal

This product lasts for a good while and I use it once a day in the morning. It’s around $20 at Walmart, but again, here’s another great buy on Amazon! I’m going to have to start shopping more there…. You can get two jars for a sale price of $33.98 plus free shipping. Here’s my Amazon link: Age Perfect Cell Renewal

If you’ve ever wondered about why I include Amazon, or other affiliate links in my post, for one it makes it easier for you to find the products I’m blogging about. It also generates a tiny commission. It doesn’t affect the price that you pay, it’s what sellers do for the advertising.

Anytime I share a link to a product, it’s always something that I have first hand knowledge of, which means I have usually purchased it for myself. Never would I recommend a product that I didn’t personally love or was not happy with.

If you have found a makeup source that actually has at least a 50+ salesclerk or specialist on makeup for seniors, please share!

Maybe Ulta will see this post and think…..gosh, maybe we need some seniors that know a thing or two about baby boomer makeup to make customers more comfortable! Even it if was a special day once a month!
